For many women in Vaughan, breast augmentation is about feeling at home in their own body again, whether that means restoring volume after pregnancy or weight loss, improving symmetry, or finally getting the shape they’ve always wanted. At Power Plastic Surgery, breast augmentation is performed by Dr. Stephanie Power, a board-certified (FRCSC) female plastic surgeon. Her Toronto practice is a short drive south of Vaughan. “My patients are real women,” says Dr. Power. “Mothers and next-door neighbors, not models.”

This page covers what Vaughan patients usually want to know. For the full procedure guide, including implant safety, long-term care and dozens of FAQs, see Dr. Power’s breast augmentation in Toronto page.

What Is Breast Augmentation?

Breast augmentation uses implants to enhance the size and shape of the breasts. Women choose it to boost their confidence, restore volume lost after pregnancy or weight loss, or improve breasts that are noticeably different in size. It is one of the most requested procedures at Power Plastic Surgery, and one of the procedures with the highest patient satisfaction in plastic surgery.

Is Breast Augmentation Right for You?

Breast augmentation tends to work best for women who:

  • Are in good overall health
  • Have finished having children
  • Are at a stable, healthy weight
  • Have realistic expectations about their results
  • Want the confidence boost that comes with fuller breasts

Slender and athletic women can still be good candidates. Placing the implant below the muscle often gives a more natural look when there is less natural breast tissue. If you also have sagging, Dr. Power may recommend a breast lift with implants instead.

Saline or Silicone? A Quick Comparison

Implant type is one of the first decisions you will make with Dr. Power.

  • Saline implants cost less and can be placed through smaller incisions. If one ruptures, the deflation is noticeable, and saline implants are more prone to rippling.
  • Silicone implants feel more natural. They need monitoring for silent ruptures, which are detected with ultrasound or MRI. Form-stable cohesive gel (“gummy bear”) options hold their shape even if the implant ruptures.

Round implants are the most popular shape and give fullness in the upper breast. For a closer look, read Saline vs. Silicone Breast Implants: What to Know.

Choosing Size, Incision and Placement

Size: Implants are measured in cubic centimeters (cc), not cup sizes. You will try on sizers at your consultation, and most patients choose implants between 300 and 500cc. Our guide on how to determine the right implant size can help you prepare.

Incision: The most common options are the inframammary incision, hidden in the fold under the breast, and the periareolar incision, along the border of the areola. Learn more about choosing your breast augmentation incision.

Placement: Implants placed above the muscle can create more cleavage but need enough natural breast tissue to cover them. Implants placed below the muscle often look more natural, though recovery can be a little longer.

What to Expect: Consultation Through Recovery

At your consultation, Dr. Power will review your medical history and any pregnancy and weight history, take measurements, talk about your lifestyle and goals, and help you try on sizers.

Breast augmentation is performed under general anesthesia and usually takes one to two hours. You will need someone to drive you home to Vaughan after surgery. A typical recovery looks like this:

  • First few days to one week: Most patients return to office work or school. Prescription pain medication helps with discomfort.
  • First month: Wear your surgical bra full-time, and avoid heavy lifting, strenuous activity and exercise.
  • Driving: Once you are off prescription pain medication and comfortable moving your upper body.
  • Follow-up visits: Typically at one day, one week, three months and one year after surgery.
  • Final results: Usually visible around one year, as swelling settles.

Why Vaughan Patients Choose Dr. Power

Dr. Power studied at Princeton University, earned her MD and completed her plastic surgery residency at the University of Western Ontario, and holds an MSc in Medical Biophysics. She became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada in 2013 and completed two fellowships at the University of Toronto, in Aesthetic Surgery and in Trauma and Reconstructive Surgery. She has also volunteered with Operation Smile.

Many women prefer to discuss breast surgery with a woman, and Dr. Power is one of the very few female plastic surgeons in Toronto. Her approach puts natural proportion ahead of dramatic size. Vaughan patients also see Dr. Power for tummy tucks and labiaplasty, and you can see her full range of services on the female plastic surgeon in Vaughan page.

Combining Breast Augmentation With Other Procedures

Some Vaughan patients want to address more than one area in a single surgery and recovery, which also means fewer trips into Toronto. Breast augmentation is often part of a mommy makeover, and it can be paired with a breast lift when sagging is a concern. If you’re not sure which you need, read Breast Lift vs Augmentation. Dr. Power will recommend the right plan at your consultation.

About Vaughan, Ontario

Vaughan is one of York Region’s largest municipalities, just north of Toronto, with established neighborhoods and newer family communities like Vellore Village. Green spaces such as the Kortright Centre for Conservation sit alongside busy commercial areas. Because Vaughan is so close to the city, many patients find a Toronto-based surgeon easy to fit into their schedule.

Getting to Power Plastic Surgery from Vaughan
