Mommy makeovers are popular surgeries for moms who wish to restore their bodies closer to their pre-pregnancy appearance.  Many in the Toronto area turn to leading female plastic surgeon Dr. Power for their mommy makeovers. Continue reading to learn more about what you may achieve through your procedure before scheduling your consultation.

Procedures Included in a Mommy Makeover

A mommy makeover is a customizable surgery which may include multiple procedures. Patients can choose which areas they wish to treat and which procedures they wish to include with guidance from an experienced plastic surgeon like Dr. Power.

The number of procedures which you can safely include in your mommy makeover will vary depending on several factors. Patients typically want to address changes in the breasts and abdomen during a mommy makeover, but may also request procedures such as labiaplasty or liposuction. Dr. Power typically recommends limiting combination procedures to those which can be completed in about five hours as a safety precaution. In addition, it is not typically recommended to undergo extensive surgery on both the front and back of the body during a single procedure, as this makes positioning difficult and recovery more uncomfortable. During a consultation, Dr. Power will review your best options and make a recommendation specific to your unique situation.

Breast Augmentation and Breast Lift

After pregnancy and breastfeeding, the breasts often have some sagging and a “deflated” look. Breast augmentation can be a good option to restore youthful fullness and a preferred shape. A breast lift will restore youthful positioning and can be performed with or without implants depending on your needs and goal results.

Tummy Tuck

Pregnancy can cause loose, excess skin as well as damage or separation to the abdominal muscles. A tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty, repairs and tightens the abdominal muscles and removes excess skin to restore a flat, toned look. This can also address issues like chafing that patients may experience due to excess hanging or loose skin.

Despite a healthy, balanced diet and exercise, many patients find that they have stubborn fat in areas such as the hips, thighs, abdomen, sides, and back or bra roll. Liposuction may be used to remove fat and contour the body.

A labiaplasty may be performed after pregnancy and childbirth to repair damage or address changes in the appearance of the labia. Often, patients choose a labiaplasty to reduce discomfort or irritation related to extra skin in this area.  Many choose Dr. Power for her expertise as well as the fact that they prefer a female plastic surgeon for this sensitive procedure.

What to Expect From Your Mommy Makeover Surgery

Mommy makeover surgery is performed under general anesthesia. The total length of your surgery will vary depending on the procedures you choose. After a mommy makeover, Dr. Power chooses to admit patients overnight for monitoring, pain control, and nursing care. The day after your surgery, you can return home with a trusted friend, family member, or caregiver who can drive you home and assist you in the early stages of the recovery process.

Recovering After a Mommy Makeover

After a mommy makeover, most patients can return to non-strenuous work or other routines within 1-2 weeks.. During this initial recovery process, you can expect swelling and soreness. You will be unable to lift heavy objects or your children over the first month, so be sure to arrange for help with childcare. Some residual swelling may persist for six months to a year, but should not be too noticeable to others.
