Blepharoplasty, also known as eye lift surgery, is a procedure to restore a refreshed and youthful appearance to tired, aging eyes. Because our eyelid skin is some of the most delicate on our bodies, signs of aging appear around our eyes sooner than in many other areas. Sagging or puffy eyelids may affect a person’s appearance, causing them to appear sad, angry, or older than they feel. Dr. Power, a board-certified plastic surgeon, has ample experience performing eyelid lift surgery. Whether you are in need of upper eyelid lift surgery, lower eyelid lift surgery, or both, Dr. Power may be able to help.

Eyelid Surgery Techniques

Eye-lift surgery encompasses a variety of different surgical techniques to help achieve each patient’s unique goals. An eyelid lift may include upper eyelid surgery, lower eyelid surgery, or both.

What to Expect During Upper Eyelid surgery

Upper eyelid lift surgery focuses on eliminating excess skin and fat on the upper lid. This excess skin may cause a hooded appearance and can potentially even obstruct an individual’s line of vision. This occurs when facial eyelid skin loses elasticity as we age. During this procedure, incisions are created along the natural crease of the upper eyelid. Through this incision excess skin and fat will be removed and the surrounding muscles will be adjusted.

What to Expect During Lower Eyelid surgery

Lower eyelid surgery is performed to reduce puffiness under the eyes and eliminate drooping tissue and undereye bags. This procedure may be performed along with upper blepharoplasty if needed. During surgery, Incisions are made just below the lash line or through the inner lid so there is no visible scarring. Through this incision, fat will be removed or repositioned to create a smooth contour beneath the eyelid. Sagging skin may also be removed.

Blepharoplasty Recovery

Following your blepharoplasty procedure, you will need a trusted friend or family member to drive you home and stay with you for at least 24 hours. Slight bruising, swelling, and eye redness are to be expected and will resolve over the next couple of weeks. Over-the-counter pain meds medication can help with any discomfort. While improvement in contour instant results will be noticeable after surgery, more refined results will be seen after swelling and bruising subside. Patients can enjoy their blepharoplasty results for many years to come.
