A breast augmentation involves the surgical placement of implants to increase breast size and improve shape. Several factors, including implant type, size, shape, and placement, will determine your results, and Dr. Power will guide you through each decision.
What is Breast Augmentation?
Breast augmentation surgery enhances breast size and shape through the placement of implants. Many women pursue breast augmentation to enhance their natural breasts, restore volume after pregnancy or weight loss, or correct asymmetry between the breasts.
Implant Type
The two types of breast implants are saline and silicone. Saline implants are filled with sterile salt water and are safely resorbed by the body if the implant ruptures. Silicone implants, including modern form-stable options, tend to have a more natural feel and require periodic monitoring for silent rupture.
Implant Size and Placement
Implants are sized by volume rather than bra cup size, and your breast base diameter helps determine the best size for your frame and goals. Implants can be placed either above or below the chest muscle; placement below the muscle is often more natural-looking but involves a longer recovery.
Who is a Candidate for Breast Augmentation?
Good candidates for breast augmentation are in good general health, have realistic expectations about results, and are bothered by breast volume, shape, or symmetry. Patients who have finished breastfeeding and have a stable weight tend to have the most predictable, long-lasting results.
Ideal Candidates for Breast Augmentation in Brampton are:
- In good overall health, with a stable weight
- Bothered by breast volume, shape, or asymmetry
- A non-smoker, or willing to quit at least 4 weeks before and after surgery
- Have finished breastfeeding, if applicable
- Have reasonable expectations about results
Incision Options
The two most common incision options are inframammary (below the breast crease) and periareolar (around the nipple). Each leaves a scar that typically fades over time and settles into position as the implants drop into place. The best option for you will depend on your chosen implant, anatomy, and preference, and will be discussed in detail during your consultation.
Breast Augmentation Recovery
Breast augmentation is performed under general anesthesia, so you will need someone to take you home and stay with you for the first 24 hours. Most patients need about one to two weeks of recovery and can return to work or school within about a week. A surgical bra is generally worn for around 6 weeks to support the new implants while swelling and discomfort subside, which is usually most noticeable during the first few days.

About Brampton
Brampton, located in the Regional Municipality of Peel in Ontario’s Greater Toronto Area, is one of Canada’s fastest-growing and most culturally diverse cities. The area’s history dates back thousands of years to the Indigenous peoples who originally inhabited the region. European settlement began in the early 19th century, with the community initially known as Buffy’s Corners before being renamed Brampton in 1834 after the town of Brampton in Cumberland, England.
The arrival of the Grand Trunk Railway in 1856 sparked significant growth and established Brampton as an important commercial center. Throughout the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the city became known for its greenhouse industry, earning the nickname “The Flower Town of Canada.” The cultivation of roses and other flowers became a major economic driver, and Brampton gained recognition across North America for its horticultural excellence.
Modern Brampton has evolved into a thriving urban center with a population representing over 200 ethnic backgrounds, making it one of the most multicultural cities in Canada. The city offers residents excellent amenities including beautiful parks and trails, vibrant cultural festivals, strong educational institutions, and a robust economy. With convenient access to Toronto via Highway 401 and GO Transit, Brampton continues to attract families and professionals seeking a diverse, dynamic community with both urban conveniences and suburban appeal.
