The Labiaplasty Procedure & Recovery

Most labiaplasties are completed through either the trim or wedge technique. Typically, local anesthesia is sufficient to complete either procedure, which reduces overall risk. In a trim labiaplasty, excess tissue from the labia minora which projects beyond the labia majora (outer labia) is removed. This involves making a small incision along the length of the labia minora, which allows scarring to be well-concealed by the area’s natural contours. The result is decreased projection of the labia minora and, as needed, removal of darkened tissue.

A wedge labiaplasty involves removing a V-shaped section of the labia minora. Scarring is typically even less noticeable than that of a trim labiaplasty, however, this procedure is less effective in removing darkened tissue.

After a labiaplasty, patients can expect swelling, bruising, and some discomfort which can be treated through prescription medication in the first few days. Sutures will gradually dissolve, and any remaining sutures can be removed at the post-operative appointment, which is usually scheduled about ten days after the surgery. For this reason, out-of-town patients must arrange for accommodations near Power Plastic Surgery for the duration of this recovery period. Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (YTZ) is the most convenient option for Power Plastic Surgery patients. YTZ is closer to our office and faster to travel through as a smaller airport overall. This option is our first recommendation for fly-in patients.

Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) is another option. This larger airport is located just outside of the city, making your trip just a bit longer. However, YYZ offers more connections and may be the only option from certain destinations.
