NECK LIFT AT POWER PLASTIC SURGERY

As we age, we often lose the youthful contours in our face and neck. This can be the result of gravity, heredity, stress, and various environmental conditions. If you are noticing that you are unhappy with these signs of aging and wish to rejuvenate your appearance, a neck lift may be right for you.

What is a Neck Lift?

A neck lift procedure is done to improve signs of aging in the neck and jawline area. Many individuals state that they are unhappy with excess skin on their neck, a double chin, or a “turkey wattle”. When you feel that your neck area does not match the youthfulness of your face, a neck lift may be a good choice.

It is, however, important to understand that a neck lift cannot stop the aging process from occurring. It is meant to help you achieve the look of a younger-looking you.

How is a Neck Lift Performed?

A neck lift is performed under general anesthesia. Your neck lift procedure choices include a traditional neck lift incision or a limited incision, depending on your clinical appearance and aesthetic goals.

Traditional Neck Lift Incision

Begins at the hairline near the sideburn, and follows down and around the ear, ending in the back of the hairline. Tissues under the neck skin will be repositioned, and the platysma muscle is often tightened. Skin will be redraped over the new facial contours, and excess skin trimmed away.

Limited Neck Lift Incision

This technique may involve incisions that only follow around the ear. These incisions are shorter, but because of this, results may be more limited than those of a traditional neck lift.

All incision lines will be closed with sutures. Once these have healed, any incisions from the procedure are very well concealed within the hairline, so you won’t have to worry about visible and noticeable scarring.

Neck Lift Recovery

During your recovery from a neck lift procedure, you will have a bandage placed around your face and neck, which will help to minimize bruising and swelling. Dr. Power will provide you with specific instructions to properly care for your surgical site, any drains, and medications you should take.

It is important to remember to keep your head elevated on 2-3 pillows while sleeping during recovery to reduce swelling. Do not apply ice to your neck, as this could negatively affect blood flow to the skin.

As your swelling and bruising diminish, you will be able to notice visible improvements to your neck area. Overall, it may take up to one year for incision lines to fully mature.

Procedures to Enhance your Neck Lift

There are a number of rejuvenation procedures that can be performed along with a neck lift for enhanced results. These include a brow lift, to correct a sagging brow, eyelid surgery, to refresh aging eyes, and fat transfer, to add youthful volume to the cheeks or lips.
