FACELIFT AT POWER PLASTIC SURGERY

It can be difficult to have confidence when it seems like you don’t look as young as you feel. Aging is something we all go through, but looking like the best, most refreshed version of yourself can do a lot for your quality of life. For this reason, the facelift remains one of the most popular options in cosmetic surgery with its natural-looking, transformative results and advanced techniques.

Facial aging can be caused by a lot of different factors like the effects of gravity, genetics, collagen loss, and sun exposure. The skin and soft tissues can begin to sag over time, resulting in volume loss of the midface (cheek and cheekbone region) as well as sagging skin and fat in the lower face (jowls, chin, and neck). Although non-surgical treatments can be helpful in preventing these aging signs, the facelift remains one of the most effective options to rejuvenate the face and rewind the clock for the long term.

At Power Plastic Surgery, we’re proud to offer some of the best natural facelift results in the Toronto area. With Dr. Stephanie Power, you can enjoy a rejuvenated look with some of the leading techniques in surgical facial rejuvenation. We’ll create the ideal treatment plan for you using our best surgical and non-surgical treatments to ensure you get long-lasting, natural results.

"My patients are real women.
Mothers and next-door neighbors, not models."

What is a Facelift?

Facelift surgery addresses the structures most commonly affected by facial aging: loose skin, fatty tissue, and loss of muscle tone. During this procedure, excess facial skin is carefully re-draped and trimmed away to smooth out wrinkles and folds. The underlying face and neck muscles, which often lose tone over time, are also re-suspended and tightened to restore the facial contours to a more youthful appearance. Sagging facial fat can also be repositioned to restore support in areas where volume loss causes folds and wrinkles. All together, these techniques create a younger, more rejuvenated version of yourself that looks and feels natural.

Procedures to Enhance Your Facelift

Other procedures can enhance your facelift results depending on your unique goals. If you have significant volume loss and wrinkles, then fat grafting at the same time as a facelift can be beneficial. Fat grafting requires liposuction on a fatty area of your body, meaning it comes with the benefits of body contouring as well. If your concerns include a double chin, liposuction can be effective at increasing neck definition for a contoured, defined jawline.

Many other facial procedures can be performed at the same time as a facelift. This includes options like a brow lift to smooth and rejuvenate the upper face, as well as eyelid surgery to address sagging upper and lower eyelids. During a consultation, you’ll discuss your preferences and options with Dr. Power and create the ideal surgical plan using our most effective techniques.

How is a Facelift Performed?

A facelift is performed under general anesthesia. It begins with an incision, commonly extending from the sideburn, around the ear (concealed within natural skin creases), and then back within the hair-bearing scalp. Then, the skin is lifted in order to gain access to the underlying tissues. The muscles and deep tissues of the face are repositioned and tightened before the skin is re-draped and trimmed away for a smooth, natural look. If you opt for any additional procedures at the same time as your facelift, these can be performed according to your surgical plan. Finally, the incisions are closed and made ready for recovery.

Facelift Recovery

After a facelift procedure, you’ll stay overnight for observation at a recovery facility. This helps us monitor your progress and intervene if you experience any complications. You’ll be cleared to return home after we assess certain factors to ensure you’re ready for a safe and healthy recovery. Once you return home, you’ll need to arrange for care from a close friend or family member for the first few days of recovery. You can expect swelling and bruising for the first week or so before it subsides substantially. You’ll be given detailed aftercare instructions to follow to make sure your incisions are cared for, as well as when to take prescription medications and in what amounts. Returning to work is usually permitted within 1-2 weeks; however, strenuous activity and heavy lifting should be avoided for 4-6 weeks post-operatively. This timeline can be dependent on many different factors, so Dr. Power will ensure you understand the right recovery period for you. During your follow-up appointments with Dr. Power and our team, we’ll make sure your recovery is going smoothly and answer any questions you might have about your recovery and results.

FACELIFT FAQ’S

What can a facelift address?

Patients considering a facelift typically express concerns about moderate signs of facial aging, including:
• Smile lines
• Decreased skin elasticity
• Prominent rhytids
• Jowl formation
• Loose neck skin

Although non-surgical treatment options like fillers can achieve good results, patients who opt for a facelift are often looking for long-term solutions and transformative results. For some patients, non-surgical options like fillers no longer achieve the results they’re hoping for or are no longer cost effective versus a surgical procedure. In this case, the facelift is one of the best options for facial rejuvenation.
