Do you wish to accentuate your eyes through thicker, fuller, and darker eyelashes?  In these days of Zoom meetings and social media, many patients complain that they look washed out in photographs.  If you are interested in accentuating your eyes with thicker eyelashes, Latisse may be right for you. This treatment is proven to grow your natural eyelashes thicker and darker for a boost in confidence. As a board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Power is educated in how Latisse works and best application practices, so you can feel confident under her care.

What is Latisse?

Latisse® is an FDA-approved treatment to grow thicker eyelashes in individuals over 18 years old with thin lashes. It is also the only product approved by Health Canada to promote eyelash growth. It may increase lash length, thickness, and darkness to accentuate the natural beauty and youthfulness of the eyes.

During clinical studies, full results showed:

  • An eyelash length increase of 25%.
  • A thickness and fullness increase of 106%.
  • An increase of eyelash darkness by 18%.

To achieve the full effects of Latisse, it is recommended that you apply the product every night for 16 weeks. You may then transition to 2-3 times per week for maintenance.  Most patients express great satisfaction with the results from Latisse, as well as a boost in overall confidence.

How Does Latisse Work?

The active ingredient in Latisse is Bimatoprost, which is a prostaglandin analog. This drug was originally used to treat open angle glaucoma and promotion of eyelash growth was noted as a side effect.  It may now be applied directly to the lash line of the upper eyelids to increase eyelash growth.

Latisse should be applied topically along the upper lashes on a nightly basis. Patients should apply one drop of Latisse on a sterile applicator and then brush the applicator along the skin of the upper eyelid, near the lash line. Do not apply Latisse to the lower lid and blot away any excess product with a tissue. One applicator should be used for each eye and disposed after use.  Reusing applicators may result in eye infection or allergic reaction. Contact lenses should be removed before using Latisse and reinserted 15 minutes or longer after application.

Results may first become apparent at 4-6 weeks. Maximum results are generally achieved by 16 weeks. Latisse is by prescription only by a medical professional.

What is The Cost of Latisse?

Can I Wear Mascara on My Lashes When Using Latisse?

Yes, you can wear makeup on your lashes when using Latisse. Because Latisse makes your natural lashes longer and thicker, makeup will not negatively impact their growth.

What Will Happen If I Forget to Apply Latisse for a Few Nights?

If you miss a few applications, do not worry. Simply continue your Latisse treatments as normal the next evening and stay on track. If you stop using Latisse completely, your eyelashes will return to their natural state.

Why Can't I Use Latisse On My Lower Lash Line?

Latisse is not recommended for the lower lash line due to risk of developing eyelid discoloration, dark circles, and irritation. It may be more likely to spread from the lash line and it is possible to develop hair growth in other areas of the skin that Latisse contacts. Be sure to follow the specific instructions provided to you by Dr. Power regarding the proper use of Latisse for the best possible results.
